RECENT CORPORATE PROJECTS Earlier in my career, I had the fortunate opportunity of being the co-author on books by Paul G. Stern, CEO of Northern Telecom and of several other companies (STRAIGHT TO THE TOP), and by Clive Chajet, CEO of the most well-known corporate-image firm (IMAGE BY DESIGN). Those "business" books are still in print, in use in classrooms and courses. In 2009-2011 I've been working on three terrific book projects with and for CEOs and ex-CEOs. With the partners of Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers, MRCE, the premier subsurface engineering firm in the world, I wrote a spectacularly illustrated and information-packed book on the firm's 100th anniversary, 100 YEARS OF FOUNDATION ENGINEERING. Privately printed. John L. Tishman, chairman emeritus of Tishman Construction -- whose family firm is even older -- and I have recently completed his memoir, BUILDING TALL: MY LIFE AND THE CREATION OF CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT about John's efforts in managing huge construction projects such as the World Trade Center towers, the Hancock Tower in Chicago, EPCOT at Disney World, the Renaissance Center in Detroit, and Madison Square Garden. BUILDING TALL will be published in the fall of 2011 by University of Michigan Press, in hardcover and digital editions. William J. Dore, founder and former CEO of Global Industries, a company that services offshore oil platforms around the world, asked me to look into the recent court case in which he had taken on Exxon/Mobil, the world's largest company, for polluting his 28-square-miles of southwest Louisiana; the result, TO DO THE RIGHT THING: AN EPIC COURTROOM BATTLE AGAINST BIG OIL OVER THE RESTORATION OF A GULF COAST MARSH is privately published. |
